What are ';Gel Nails';? Are they different or better than acrylic nails?

I'm a nail biter and want to have pretty nails for Easter! What are ';Gel Nails';? Are they different or better than acrylic nails?
I think that the gels are much better - I would call a reputable salon because the lady that just started doing mine - gels are all she does. There is a special name for them... Some are called ';resin'; or ';light concept nails'; (lcn). There are different names - they use lights to harden the gel. There aren't the harsh odors, chemicals, etc. like there is with acrylic. They can cost a bit more - but they are worth it if you want something healthier than acrylic. They also shouldn't allow for separation - which can cause nail fungus. They will use a manual file on your nails at the end to finish the form - which is great. The electric file is so bad on your fingernails.

If you search for resin, gel, or light concept nails you will get a lot of good information. Just make sure that you find a reputable salon - that's your best bet no matter what you decide. What are ';Gel Nails';? Are they different or better than acrylic nails?
They're softer than acrylics and therefore break more easily. They are a gelled substance (sorry, don't know exactly what) that is put on your nail and then you put your nail under a purple light and it hardens. I actually don't care for them as much as acrylics.

Imagine a REALLY thick layer of clear nail polish and you've got the idea.
they are waaay better. they are stronger, last longer, and are better for your nails
Gel Nails are nails that you can remove the next day usually cost 10 bucks-WalMart-Acrylic is a more permanent way to keep up you nails. The manicurist overlays your nail w/a tip and lays acrylic over that. They usually last 2 weeks. People get acrylic b/c they are a nice presentation and last a while.
They are more expensive and I find they are 'prettier' - have a glossier finish. They are about the same durability. Fiberglass looks awesome but they are even more expensive but look great :) I have a good enough nail stylist that I can go with clear nail polish for a French with just her 'work' with Gels. I love em :)
WHAT ARE GEL NAILS?

The short answer: GEL NAILS are an extremely natural-looking enhancement: thin, clear, flexible, non-yellowing, nonporous, resist lifting. Gel nails can be used for natural nail overlays (actually one of the most difficult techniques--but it looks the easiest), tip overlays, and sculpted onto forms for short extensions, and to help encapsulate a damaged free-edge as it grows out. (For definitions of unfamiliar terms, check the ';Glossary of Nail Tech Terminology'; page.) Silk or fiberglass can be added to gels when needed for repairs or extra strength (don't get ahead of me, I' ll cover when, why and how later in these pages :).

My friends that have them like them better than acrylic. Have fun!
GEL TIP NAILS ARE ACRYLIC NAILS!

WHAT I THINK YOU ARE TRYING TO ASK IS

ARE THEY DIFFERNT OR BETTER THAN PLASTIC TIP NAILS

AND YESS THEY ARE DIFFERNT AND BETTER THAN PLASTIC TIP NAILS THAT THEY USE TO USE

BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HARM YOUR NAIL AS MUCH AS THE PLASTIC NAIL TIPS THEY PUT ON BEFORE THE ACRYLIC

BUT THE BEST ONE TO DO WHEN YOU ARE GETTING YOU NAILS DONE IS DOIN A SILK WRAP

A SILK WRAP DOES COST MORE BUT IT IS WORTH IT BECAUSE ALL THEY DO IS PUT A THIN LAYER OVER YOU NAILS AFTER THEY AVE RESHAPED AN CLEAN YOU NAILS. ALLOWING GROWTH AT A FASTER RATE AND WITH LESS WEIGHT THAT TIPS (GEL OR PLASTIC) WOULD PUT ON.
