Gel nails or acrylic nails - which is better and why?

My 12 year old daughter wants to get hers done but I'm getting conflicting info about which is better and lasts longer. One thing I really hate is when women get their nails done and they look so thick - I think it's awful!! So I want to make sure that hers don't look like that.

Does anybody have any information that might help me out? Thanks!Gel nails or acrylic nails - which is better and why?
french tips are painted on, they look like acrylics but they wont be think like you are talking about. its a really cute look too!Gel nails or acrylic nails - which is better and why?
I am a nail technician and there are quite a few options available. The two most popular being gel or acrylic.

Due to your daughters age, I would highly recommend gel at this stage. Acrylic nails require quite a bit more filing of the natural nail, and without an experienced nail technician they are quite often very thick. With gel nails, they are a lot less harmful to the natural nail underneath and are rarely thick as its just a coating (like nail polish) of gel that hardens under UV light.

I believe your daughter would also like the look of the gel nails better because they are shiny, like you are wearing a coat of clear nail polish all the time. Your daughter can also polish her nails with nail polish, but ensure she uses an acetone free nail polish remover.

However, unfortunately it may be harder for you to find a technician who specialises in gel nails, as they are not as common place as acrylic yet. But are beginning to get more popular. Gel nails are also a bit more expensive.

If and when you decide what application you desire, ensure to explain this to the nail technician. Explain that you do not want the nails to be thick, and ensure she understands this. You are a paying customer, and any good nail technician will want to ensure the customer is happy with the application! :)

I hope this has been of some help.
acrylic.

there cheaper.

gels, you have to get them filled in a lot.

acrylic you can just take them off, they last about 1 and a half-2 weeks, depending how fast your nails grow.

im 13 and i get them done a lot.

just soak them in hot water and peel them off when she wants them off.

there very pretty and not to thick:)

good luck,have a good day!
hmm, 12 seems really young to start doing that lol

I get just the tips put on and then a gel overlay...

seems to be fine but the thickness really just depends on the nail tech. :\

maybe let them know beforehand you dont want them done too thickly :)
acrylic

ik that gel ones look thick, but they are better for your nails than acrylic and they last longer!
