How to remove gel nails?

My friend bought a light-less gel kit to overlay my nails and they cracked. what can i use to remove the hardened gel and get them done?How to remove gel nails?
ermm i got mine done about a month ago and im trying to get 4 of mine off and i cant get mine off there really sore =[


but you could soak them in hot water for a while but that will take the nail off aswell or you can get some special lotion from your local beauty store =]
