Is gel nails healtheir than acrylic nails?

well i am going to the salon and i'm wondering if gel nails are better for my normall nails. allso will gel nail create fungus? Is gel nails healtheir than acrylic nails?
I had both acrylic and gel nails... At the moment i have gel nails and these are healthier and last longer. Acrylic nails take less time to do than the gels but acrylic smells like thinner while the gels are odourless...

All type of fake nails need to be periodically stopped from doing, in order to strengthen your natural nailsIs gel nails healtheir than acrylic nails?
i have heard that some acrylic nails acan create skin rashes wherever you touch yourself alot with the nails
acrylics vs. gel; acrylics and gel are basicly the same thing, acrylics, or l%26amp;p (liquid and powder) consists of two fazes, a liquid and a powder, that start to cure (dry) as soon as they are mixed, to cure they need heat (the body temperature is enough). Gels don't need mixing and they cure with U.V. ligth so you can work with it untill you place it under an U.V lightbox, or any other source of U.V (like the sun), it cures faster than acrylics (about 2 min). The removal process is also diferent, acrylics can be taken of by soaking them in acetone, when gel usually has to be filled of. Some people might prefer some system over the other. Acrylic tend to be stonger while gels might give a more natural look.

Pros and Cons!!

As a nail technician I am constantly trying to find better and safer products for my clients. When I studied my course we were taught how to apply acrylic nails but I soon discovered the benefits of Gel Nails. Gel nails provide a faster, easier and safer way of having nail extensions. Faster because there is less filing and no fiddling around with powders and liquid, easier because gel is just a uv gel that is painted on to the nail and cured under a uv lamp, and safer because there is less filing there is less chance of burns or cuts from files. The cost to have gels is around the same as acrylics and last just as long or longer, if you shop around or look in the community advertisements you may find them cheaper. All salons should provide Gel Nails as an alternative to acrylic so it shouldn't be hard to find. Enjoy!!!
idk. but like people said, acrylic broke me out soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad. i was scratching everywhere! i had warps everywhere! and i couldn't wait to get them off because all that bacteria can build up under the nail. get gel.

**hope this helps you!!**

I think that it's a matter of preference of appearance over which type of nail that you like better. I think that the gel nails also look whiter than the acrylic nails. Either type of nail would have the possibility of fungal infection, as they could trap fungus between your natural nail and the artificial one. Keep an eye out for black or green discoloration under the nail.

Is there ANY way to get off gel nails without filing ?!?

I got tips , but they covered the whole top of my nail with the gell stuff . Now , they're growing out and cracking , but I CANT get them off . HELPPPPPPPPPP .

I need them off by tomorrow and I've been filing for HOURS .Is there ANY way to get off gel nails without filing ?!?
go back to the place where u got them done at and they stick your nails into some liquid (dont rem. what it is called) and they come off within 10-20 min. good luck! =]Is there ANY way to get off gel nails without filing ?!?
acetone and an orange stick. soak your nails good %26amp; long before peeling them off with the stick, though. nail clippers work too.

Do you have to cut your nails before you go and get gel nails ??

do they ask you if you want tips or ... does gel nails jus not have tips , =S is the white part your real nail ?Do you have to cut your nails before you go and get gel nails ??
If they think they need to be trimmed they will take care of it for you.... don't worry about it.

Just go to the salon and tell them exactly how you want your nails to look and they will take care of the rest.Do you have to cut your nails before you go and get gel nails ??
okay here is what they do, they cut your nail tip so they can put the white part on...all it is is like a white tip part and they glue that on the tip of your nail, then they put filling in the rest of the nail to make it all shiny and stuff and to make the rest of the nail even.

then, they cut the white tip to the length you want it.

and buff it a little more.

If you just want a regular french tip, then say just that...

and the white part is not your real nail its just a tip thing...:)

OH!

and if you want a design on the nails you just tell them what you want...they usually have a selection up at the counter to choose from...

and its a little intimidating since the nail people speak Japanese or Chinese or whatever and you might feel like their talking about you, but their not...:)
when you go get your nails done they will do EVERYTHING. They will cut them and all that. They will ask you what you want done. But watch out they like to sell you things you dont want.
they have white tips which look pretty ... and clear tips for polish....they will prep your nail for application so you don't have to do a thing
no u dont gota cut em. they take care of everything,

just tell them exactly what u want.
It can be your real nail if you want...

If your nails need to be cut theyll do it.

What is the fastest at home method for removing gel nails? Pure Acetone or something else?

First soak them in hot water. It will make them loose. Then use pure acetone and rub them down with a cutton swab or something. It might melt them a little. I dont really know what it does i just heard you werent supposed to use acetone nail polish remover on those nails because it will loosen them, and sicne thats your quest, try that.

And if you are going to soak them in acetone nail polish remover..make sure its not in a plastic cup. It will eat away at the cup and get everywhereWhat is the fastest at home method for removing gel nails? Pure Acetone or something else?
acetone. i used to get fake nails...pain in the ***! so get acetone, and a nail file. melt 'em then pry 'em off. What is the fastest at home method for removing gel nails? Pure Acetone or something else?
Acetone is messy- it melts the nail. Go to the salon and have them take the nails off.
pay 5 or 10 bucks at the salon and get it done. They use the dremal and acetone sometimes take about 15 minutes
I bought artificial nail remover from the drug store. The main ingredient is acetone
Soaking them in acetone is probably the best.

Be patient;this will take some time
Acetone nail polish remover or straight acetone.
acetone doesn't remove them. I get gel nails and I just use something to lift them then pop them off it's easy with Gel

What are the contra indications for acrylic and gel nails?

does any one know what the contra indications for acrylic and gel nailsWhat are the contra indications for acrylic and gel nails?
As an educator for Nail Professionals as well as a practicing nail tech I find most common, people seem to not know the diffrences between Gel and acrylic services as due to lack of knowledge on the techs part, communication barrier or that the tech wants to scam the costumer into beleving that they got a quality product for a cheap price or all the above!!!

The industry has come up with an alternative to the traditional nitrocellulose-based product that we are all familiar with on the market today. Gel nails are a new, more natural looking alternative to acrylic nail extensions. Unlike acrylics, the UV gel used to create the nails has no discomforting odors and no hazardous ingredients. There is no glue involved in the process except to put on tips before the application if neccesary but not needed, eliminating unnecessary nail damage caused by lifting. Gel nails are created with a layer of base gel, brushed into a mold then cured by UV Lamps: 9 watt, 18 watt, or 36 watt at 110 volts depending on cure rate desired. Gel nails are limitless in their design capabilities, and can even be reinforced with fiberglass for extra strength and repairs purposes. They are also available in a choice of natural, basic color choices mainly the basic color wheel red, blue, yellow, blacketc to pastelcolors to enhance the natural look of the nail bed or to add some flare and go with a daring black french. In short, gel nails are an extremely natural-looking enhancement: thin, clear, flexible, non-yellowing, nonporous, while resist lifting. Gel nails can be used for natural nail overlays (actually one of the most difficult techniques, but looks the easiest to achieve), tip overlays, and sculpted onto forms for short extensions, and to help encapsulate a damaged free-edge as it grows out. These have been used mainly by nail salons Gel nails are the future of the nail industry. 90% of the nail business in Europe is based on gels, and the United States will also be using gels within 5 to 10 years. Gel nails are up and coming probably the next hot service that salon clients will demand. No other service can give clients both a natural nail look and feel combined with the convenience and durability of acrylic nails. Many clients have tired of acrylic nails in this past two decades because of the disadvantages that can be associated with them (such as the odors, lifting and nail damage, and components such as MMA, etc). These same clients now flock to salons in record numbers for ';natural nail'; manicures with many spa type add-ons to increase the service price. However, many of these clients have already grown weary of the weekly appointments and rigorous home maintenance requirements of ';natural'; nails. They want another alternative; they want natural beauty combined with strength and durability. Now we can deliver to the clients what they really want - convenience as well as durability. Some major benefits of gel nails are that they are odorless, they have a thin, flexible, natural feeling on the nail, and they are clear and extremely lightweight. Traditional acrylics harden in about 10 minutes, but they can take 24 hours or more to fully cure. Ultra violet gel nails harden in about 15-30 seconds and cure in about 2 minutes. They are simple one-component UV gels. These are not temporary nails that are applied with adhesives, they are extensions of one's natural nails. The UV gel is a multifunctional product and can be even used for nail sculpting. Clients want and are willing to pay for high-end services. Just as the top department stores have defined a separate niche for themselves from the K-Mart type stores, so will gel nails be distinguished from many other nail care services. Gel nails will never be a discount service offered in a discount salon atmosphere. Gel nails are a long term, lifestyle choice. The type of consumer looking for only a quick fix of short term or temporary nails (such as party nails). While some salons will always cater to quantity sales such as walk-in type business, the gel nail philosophy demands commitment and planning and so will attract a clientele that is compatible with that service level. Just as Nieman Marcus does not compete with K-Mart, neither will gel nail salons compete with discount salons. These are two very different market segments with two very different price points and a lot safer to use than what is currently available on the market today

The acrylic nails that are created by mixing a powder with a liquid. Nail techs literally paint and shape the nails into place using this mixture. The liquid recommended by most professional nail technicians is Ethyl Methacrylate, or EMA. Ethyl Methacrylate is a little more expensive than its alternative, Methyl Methacrylate or MMA. Methyl Methacrylate is commonly used because it is more cost-effective and is deemed a ';black market under the table product'; due to it being banned for use by the FDA. However, MMA is linked to a number of harmful side effects, including skin irritations and irregular nail growth. MMA -Methyl Methacrylate is an ingredient that was commonly used in early ';nail porcelains or acrylics.';

In the early 1970鈥檚, the Food and Drug Administration received numerous complaints of personal injuries associated with the use of acrylic monomer formulated with MMA and then banned by the FDA.

The reports included serious nail damage or loss, contact dermatitis, organ damage from long term use, soreness and infection due to breaks caused by rigidly adhered acrylic.

Most nail tech's that still use Acrylic including me urge customers to choose Ethyl Methacrylate for acrylic use because of its quality. Excellent material choices and proper nail care insures consumers that their nails will enhance their hands with style and safety.

Once care and maintenance are in place, a regular acrylic nail customer can concentrate on nail color, design and trends. One of the classic nail color combinations is found in the French manicure. This design is simply a natural nail color accompanied by white tips. This is a popular option for many women because the colors compliment any outfit. Some customers are a little more daring and want to play with color. Nail techs create a plethora of designs ranging from stars to little murals of famous paintings.

In addition to color, many people choose to add a little sparkle. Nail technicians offer inserts that are imbedded right into the acrylic. Some more exotic choices include tiny gems and stickers that come in a huge range of shapes, designs and colors. What are the contra indications for acrylic and gel nails?
Just a clairfication. Gel nails are non-porous. Thats why they are not soakable in acetone. In order to remove them, they must be filed off. Though there are a few brands of soakable gels on the market, they are not widely used. All traditional UV gels are non-soakable. Thus, they do not 'breathe.' However, gels are definitely better for your nails though all artificial nails will cause damage to some degree after wearing them for some time. How much damage is done really depends on the technician, and the products they are using. There are so many unskilled techs out there who will ruin your nails for you. No need for acrylic, or gel, LOL! And poor quality products will damage your nails much quicker than top quality products, especially if they have MMA in them. That stuff is really bad for your nails. No wonder it was banned for use on nails over 25 years ago by the FDA. But, still many of the cheap salons still use it because it costs next to nothing to buy the stuff. Those are the salons to avoid at all costs.

Thank You for asking this question as i have asked my lady that does my nails if i should have it taken off for a while to let them breath as they are acrylic, she has assured me my nails will be ok my daughters nails have gone all white %26amp; brittle.
gel is porous and allows the nails to 'breath' therefore doesnt damage them as much. acrylic isnt as nice but it is more hardwearing
Gel is supposed to be kinder on the nails but I have had both and they both leave the nails damaged and easily broken.

I've had my gel nails on for almost 5 weeks and havnt gotten a fill, some of them have fallen off but theres like 5 left they wont come off and i want to go get a new fill tommarow but they charge more for the take off, so what should I soak them in to make them come off easily? How do i get gel nails off? what do i soak them in?
If they are UV lights, You have to file them down by layer. If they're not. Soak them in Pure Acetone for 10-20 minutes or longer. It'll melt the nail, So take something like a orange wood stick and push it off.How do i get gel nails off? what do i soak them in?
Acetone. You've gotta sit there for a little bit with it soaking. But, at the salon they have you place your hands in a bowl of acetone and cover with a towel. Your nails will become gooey-like and the salons usually file it down until the nail is completely gone.
I get gel nails and I've always just soaked them off. It does take a while but it works for me.

If I get gel nails with a white tip, can I get coloured polish next time, and then go back to white tip?

without starting over with a new set?If I get gel nails with a white tip, can I get coloured polish next time, and then go back to white tip?
Of course you can do that. No, you would not need to get them replaced with a new set.

Just an idea: if you go to a good salon, and not one of these discount places, then you may be able to get a soakable UV gel which is formulated to look like nail polish and comes in many colors. Many of the UV nail gel companies are just starting to come out with these products, and they are applied pretty much in the same way as polish is. Then, they are cured for 2 minutes for each layer of color under a UV lamp. The finished result is a super long lasting nail color which doesn't chip, or peel. And when you decide to have it removed, the tech can either soak it off or file it off. The UV gel nails underneath it will not be damaged by this either because that type of gel cannot be soaked off.

Just a thought!!If I get gel nails with a white tip, can I get coloured polish next time, and then go back to white tip?
Absolutely. However, you might need to do a little more than just remove the polish to go back to white tip. You might have to get a buffer block and buff off a little residual stain from the polish to really get it back 100%.

Should i get acrylic nails or gel nails?

which would you recommend and what are silk wraps?Should i get acrylic nails or gel nails?
I've had lots of damage done to my nails from acrylic. I've been getting gel nails for a while now, and they look a lot better. They're a little more expensive though. The salon I go to charges $20 for a full set of acrylics, and $28 for gel tips. It's worth it because they do a really good job on them. They do gel nails the same way as they put the acrylic nails on but they really do look better. Silk wraps are pieces of silk that are cut to fit your nail and then glued on your nails. Then they cover them with something to make the nail itself. I guess those are supposed to look good too. But, I would get gel if I were you.Should i get acrylic nails or gel nails?
I don't know what you're trying to achieve or what you're starting with, but if you have decent nails DO NOT GET SILK WRAPS!. I let a 'master' nail tech at a high-end salon talk me into silk wraps and now really regret it. My nails are thin and pliable but grow fast and are usually nice as long as I keep them medium length and well polished to protect them. I went to the salon with some girlfriends to get a mani and pedi and mentioned to the tech that I had a thumb nail that had been splitting. She recommended the wraps to 'strenghthen'; my nails. One of my girlfriends said she'd seen the wraps and they looked good. I said okay but was VERY concerned when she started roughing up my nails with what looked like a mini sander. But the finished product did look nice (it looked like my own nails but stronger).

However, after a week. the growth of my natural nails left a noticeable gap between the wrap and the cuticle. And some of the wraps started to lift near the cuticle and were catching on everything. And the thumb nail that had been peeling when I came in chipped at the tip--exactly where it had been weak before the wrap. All this despite the promise by the tech that the mani would look good for 2-3 weeks (and I don't get my hands wet except to wash %26amp; use gloves to do dishes)..

I decided I couldn't justify spending big $ every week to maintain these things ( I had been told it would be every 2-3 weeks for a touch up) so I spent 20 minutes soaking my hands in a bag of cotton balls and acetone (yuck) then slowly and carefully peeling off the horrible wraps.

Now my natural nails are scarred and are breaking as they grow out, despite using strenghthening polish. What a mess for me and what a racket for the nail salons!

There are sites that claim a silk wrap won't damage your natural nail, yet roughing up the nail is apparently how they get the wrap to adhere. Roughing up=damage!
GEL!! acrylic nails really damage ur real nails...

one time when i tried to take off an acrylic it took of my real nail. It was painful!!! dont do that to urself..go Gel
Acrylic. They stay on longer and look nicer. Im not sure what a silk wrap is though.
Gel, acrylic is not good for your real nails.

p.s.: take tonic 2 x day.My nail brakes alot i dont like to get fake nail so is there any such thing as nail gel???
There are things that are like nail polish that ';strengthen'; you nails. For example one is Develop 10

    http://www.cachebeauty.com/develop10.htm

The truth is that they normally contains some unusual ingredients like Formaldehyde.

My nails often break too. What I find works best to strengthen my nails naturally is a really rich hand cream that I rub directly into my nails and cuticles regularly. I keep some at my desk at work, in my car, and put it on before I go to bed at night. I also keep emery board in all those places too. What normally causes a break or chip in my nail starts out as a small deformation of the edge of the nail that gets snagged on something and totally destroys my nail. So whenever that initial deformation forms, I quickly clean it up with an emery board. I am not wearing any nail polish for at least a month now and have fairly long nails (about a 1/3 of the length of the nail itself).

    Good luck.
please do not add fake nails...having a prothese can only create more problems.

you can get such a thing bio gel ..sometimes it's called bio sculpture. that stuff is great, it's your nails but stronger, it doesnt get in the way like fake nail, and its a bit heavier than just nail polish.

it's a bite more expensive, but worth it
    Hi,

Sally Hansen has a nail glue on the market and it works really well. My nails break and split as well as crack and when I tried Sally's nail glue, it really worked!
Breaking nails and peeling nails is a vitimine / mineral deficiency, as are white spots on nails. Nails are not easy to mend. I have tried. Doctors told me to cut them short when they get bad. I tried Vitimine / Mineral supliments also. It works I haven't had a crack for more than a month. Elderly and carless people forget their Supliments.

UV Gels must be buffed off layer by layer and will not soak off in Acetone.

No-light gel nails, can be soaked off by acetone...If they are no-lights just soak your nails in Pure Acetone for 15-25 minutes without lifting your hands out of the bowl, Then take a orange wood stick and gently push at the softened nail.

i just got gel nails last night and I was woundering besides bleach and pinesol what will wreck them?Gel nails? what is bad for them that can cause damage or make them fall off?
who ever done your nails really should have went through all this with you but heres the advise i give my clients:

no biting around the nails, avoid using your nails as tools eg. opening cans of soft drink, no nail varnish remover that has acetone in them only acetone-free polish removers, try not to bad the nails on hard surfaces, watch out when opening car doors as they tend to catch while pulling up the handle, do not pick around the nails, try not to have them submerged in hot water for long periods of time as this can soften them as well making them weaker, wear gloves while gardening, using cleaning products or any other activities that may expose your nails to damage. keep a cuticle oil rubbed in regularly to keep your cuticles healthy and hydrated.

    Hope this helps :)

How do you remove artificial gel nails?

you should allow the nail professional that applied the nails to also remove them, the process is not painful and it does not take very long.they will first ask you to soak your nails in a special solution,as the artificial nails start to lift away from your natural nails, the nail technician will use a fingernail clipper or a different tool for the finger nail to clip away all of the artificial nail.depending on how long you have been wearing the artificial nails, your natural nails may be very weak and fragile ask if they offer a treatment to strengthen your natural nails, this usually comes in the form of a polish if your salon does not offer a treatment you can go to your local drug store or sally beauty supply to purchase it,ask the store clerk for help and options before you buy it...good luck! How do you remove artificial gel nails?
you should really go to a salon to have them removed for you or soak your nails in a clear nail varnish remover for 20-30mins do not pick them of you will damage and break your own nails! How do you remove artificial gel nails?
YOU START AT THE BACK OF THE NAIL AND THEN U CAREFULLY PULL IT AND IT IS OFF
From personal experience i would go back the place you got your nails from. But you can by artifical nail remover from your local drug store. THis doesnt really work that well and it kinda tears your nails and it hurts.
Soaking your nails in acetone is the best way. I'm not big fan of acrylics, but that's the easiest way.

Just make sure when you do this that you place the acetone in a metal bowl. It will melt through wood, plastic and will mess up your carpet pretty bad.

i think around 12. 8-year-olds dont need 2 b running around with fake nails. they are labeled as little brats.
    3
nahh...fake nails are so 1990's. go for your natural nails professionally manicured!
    18. You should be focussing on fun and doing stuff (which would wreck the nails). Not dressing up like an older adult. Leave that for when you're out of high school!
Call me old fashioned, but I think 17
Old enough where she can take care of then. If not done properly and care/kept up properly fake nails can do real damage to the real nail underneath leading to sores, infection, etc.
i think she should at least be 14 like when she is a freshman
    13 i'd say
I don't think it is really a matter of how old she should be as opposed to her maturity and health.

If she can take care of them I don't think age matters.

Although I would not recommend putting fake nails on anyone under 13.
whenever she is allowed to wear make up i would think. Somewhere around 14 or 15.
    16
Until she is old enough to pay for them herself. Unless it is a prom or homecoming. I think that they would look silly on a girl younger than 16 anyway!
i first got my nails professionally done in highschool (i was thirteen when i started ninth grade) and it seemed appropriate. they weren't outlandish...pretty short...a neat french manacure....very classy, no super colors, no rhinestones...very mature.

i'm also a mom, and i think i'd do the same for my daughter...thirteen sounds good.
I would say between 14-16 depends on the girl and the parents of course :-)

Where can I find a nail tech in Yuma, Arizona who uses Light Concept gel products.?

I'm a snowbird - living in Yuma for the winter and would like to find a nail salon with a tech using Light Concept gel products. I tried to find one last year without any luck, but was hoping to find someone who recently moved here who knows the process and uses the product.Where can I find a nail tech in Yuma, Arizona who uses Light Concept gel products.?
The most accurate and dependable way of locating an authentic LCN nail tech in your area would be to call LCN at their company's U.S.A. Headquarters which is located in Connecticut. They are very helpful, and I'm sure you would be able to get help from them. Their number is 800-86-NAILS. Their web site is at : http://www.lcnusa.com

Gel nails, what's the procedure and products, how could I do them myself at home?

I wouldnt advise doing them at home, i used to do my own nails before I trained as a nail tech and I thought I was doing ok...I'd scream in horror now if I saw someone doing what I used to do. The kits for using at home just dont cover everything in enough detail.

If you are determined tho may I suggest you sign up with http://www.salongeek.com/ and read read read it is a fantastically informative site for those in the trade and was invaluable to me while i was in trainingGel nails, what's the procedure and products, how could I do them myself at home?
you can purchase a gel nails kit on eBay for around $45, which may include a curing light. Don't be put off by the light, it seals the gel, and only emits a harmless amount of UV rays while your fingers are underneath.

The best way to learn to apply them is to watch videos on youtube ';apply gel nails'; search, or go to www.creativenails.com where they have detailed step by steps. It's simple, and can even be used on toenails in summer to prvent having to reapply paint every few days.Gel nails, what's the procedure and products, how could I do them myself at home?
there the best just go 2 a nail shop they will do it all

How much do gel nails cost in colorado?

and how long do they last? How much do gel nails cost in colorado?
A new set of gel nails usually costs about 50 bucks to get put on.. then after that its around 40 dollars for a fill. How much do gel nails cost in colorado?
It depends on what you're getting at the nail shop. If it's a full set (fake nail tips) then it is usually around $25 if it's just a manicure (your real nails painted) it's usually around $15-$20. They usually last up to 2 weeks. Also gel nails might cost a little more but usually it's all around $20-$30 to get them done.
Gel are more expensive than acrylic and will run about 40$ on CO. Make sure you are getting GEL nails, not acrylic. Powder and Liquid ALWAYS mean acrylics. Gel, is a gel.... literally. Salons will often tell you you are getting gels and its acrylic

  • How do i remove gel false nails?

i had gel false nails applied for my wedding 4 weeks ago. They are now starting to look a bit manky and i cant afford to keep getting them in-filled.

How can i remove them safely without damaging my real nails? How do i remove gel false nails?
soak your nails in nail polish remover.

after a few minutes they should just peel off..

but it will weaken your nails a bit, so just put on a protective clear nail polish like Sally Hansen Hard As Nails and your good to go.How do i remove gel false nails?
    acetone...
    Cut your fingers off !!!
You should be able to soak them in acetone nail polish remover for about 3 to 4 minutes and then they should come off easier with a nail clipper.
    Hitachi G18SR 7'; Angle Grinder
By having artificial nails put on, your nails are already damaged. Picking and peeling them off will cause further damage.

To remove them safely you can either go to the salon and have the manicurist remove the nails or remove them yourself at home. The cost will vary with the salon being more expensive.

I removed my artificial nails at home. My reasons were cost related. I used a liquid with a high concentration of acetone. I soaked my hands in it and used a nail brush to remove the layers of gel. There is also another product that comes with a brush, but it was more expensive.
use a coarse nail file and file them off. every time i get gel false nails i just file them off.

once there all off just moisturise your nails and leave them, dont apply any nail polish as your nails need to 'recover'

TIP - when filing them off it makes heaps of mess so either do it outside or with a towel underneath you.

    GOOD LUCK!!
soak em in nail polish remover. tis what my mother does.
soak them in acetone until they come off on their own

Has anyone used uv nail gel? i`m having trouble getting it to set with my uv lamp?

ive used it and i hated it so i threw it away yayHas anyone used uv nail gel? i`m having trouble getting it to set with my uv lamp?
Hi I work with NSI builder gel and find that its the best that I have used. The gel does set under the UV lamp, its probably that you've not left it under for the required amount of time (each manufacturer recommends a different duration), or that you're not properly removing the residue. This isnt required after each layer, just the final layer. Wipe-off as its sometimes called can be purchased cheaply from any beauty supplier, or from the same supplier as your gel. Just make sure that you do approx 3 layers which are thin, rather tahn one or two thick layers. Also helps to keep them looking natural. Good luck and stick with it.Has anyone used uv nail gel? i`m having trouble getting it to set with my uv lamp?
Could be a few problems. The simplest thing is to make sure you wipe off the residue. Gel doesn't completely harden. It has what's called a 'slip layer' that is used to make the next layer of gel adhere. Once you've finished your nails, you need to wipe this slip layer off with finishing wipe.

If you are already doing that, the problem could be that you're layering the gel on too thickly. It's best to do 3 or 4 thinner layers than 1 or 2 thick layers. If that fails, then you probably need either 1) a stronger lamp, or 2) new bulbs in your current lamp. Keep in mind that different gels require different wattage, so if you've recently switched product, you should check for minimum wattage requirements.
depends on the make i do bio sculpture and they are really good are u sure its not just the residue thats left ontop. wipe it with sanitiser. if its not then u need a new lamp with stronger bulbs

UV gel nails - is there a kit to do at home?

I have had biosculpt gel nails for years now %26amp; I love it coz it doesnt chip. Normal nail polish just doesnt last on my nails.

Its quite expensive and as I'm pregnant now I need to start saving money and wondered if there was any UV gel nails anyone could recommend that I could do at home.

Unfortunatly Biosculpt dont sell to the public.

Any ideas would be greatUV gel nails - is there a kit to do at home?
you can get at home gel kits for around 拢50 just by typing uv gel nail kit into google or any shopping site such as shopzilla. However I would not recommend doing this as uv gel is notorious in the industry for destroying natural nails if not done by the best technicians. I've seen hundreds of clients' nails ruined by gel applied by trained professionals, so god knows how bad it would be to do yourself. If you can't keep going to your maintenance appointments and have to have them removed make sure it is in done in a good salon or preferably the official bio sculpture salon, with dissolving solution not tools. When removed with tools the gel can take most of your nail off with it! Biosculpture are a good company and I'm sure the technicians that do your gel manicure will advise you of the best course of action if you can't continue with your appointments.

What are some advantages of gel nails vs. acrylic nails?

How durable are gel vs. acrylic? How is the maintenance schedule and price? Overall, which is better? What are some advantages of gel nails vs. acrylic nails?
Gel nails are better for your own nails to grow underneath but they are a little more expensive. Every 2 weeks to get maintenance. Acrylic really ruin your own nails. You have to keep them up for like ever. What are some advantages of gel nails vs. acrylic nails?
In my opinion acrylic is better. I had gel nails for years as the beauticiton said they are better for you nails etc etc. But after I had had them on my nails were always paper thin and short. After having acrylics on though, my nails were long and quite strong. Acrylics seem to break less aswell, I was having repairs every week with gels. x
gel nails r WAYY better and acrylic arent. gel nails r more expensive but they r healthier 4 ur nails. acrylic nails tear up ur nails. so i would DEFF. go w/ gel. :]
I think gels look more appealing. I've never had acrylics before but I know that when the gels start to grow off, you can just pay $5-$10 to get them filled in, I think for acrylics you'd have to get a new set.
Gel nails are so much better for your nails than acrylics, and they look alot better too!!

  • What's the difference between l&p, acrylic and gel nails?

i'm confused! What's the difference between l%26amp;p, acrylic and gel nails?
L%26amp;P is short for liquid and powder. This term is often used to refer to acrylic nails. Thus, L%26amp;P nails = acrylic nails. They are the same thing. Acrylic nails are applied using a liquid (the 'monomer'), and a powder (the 'polymer'). A brush is first dipped into the monomer, and then into the polymer. This mixture is then applied to your nails. It takes an average of about 1-3 minutes for it to harden. When it hardens, it forms a chemical bond with your natural nails and that is what makes it adhere so well. Many people will tell you that a glue 'holds' the acrylic onto the natural nail. This is not true. It is the chemical process of polymerization which makes a strong bond on your natural nails possible.

UV nail gel is part of the acrylic family of chemicals. It is closely related chemically, but is formulated a little differently. UV nail gels come in the form of - well, a gel! A UV gel looks exactly like this, though it is available in many colors - but this is what it looks like anyway:

    http://www.cnd.com/Home/homelink-consume鈥?/a>

The UV gels contain a chemical called photoinitiators which, when placed under a UV lamp, will 'cure' in about 2 minutes, usually. Some gels may take up to three minutes, but two minutes is the norm. When the UV gels have been cured, this means that the gel will be hardened completely. Compared to acrylic nails - which take 24-48 hours to completely harden, this is a very fast process indeed.

Some people prefer acrylic nails becuause they are less expensive than UV gel nails, and the acrylics of yesterday used to be more durable than gels. Now, that has changed quite a bit, and UV gels are - for the most part, just as durable as acrylic nails. They are also more flexible, which means less breakage, and less cracking of the nail enhancement. They are also non-toxic, the better brands are non-yellowing and more natural looking than acrylic nails. They look and feel natural, when applied correctly by a highly skilled tech using top quality products. I say this because while UV gel nails are somewhat easy to do, they are very difficult to master. So, a tech may be able to apply them, but is the finished product going to be good - or excellent? That depends on the skill level, and expertise of the technician in applying UV gel, and also in part by the products she uses. There are good gels, there are excellent gels (lots more expensive to buy), and there are also - well, very poor quality gels (cheap to buy). It really makes a big difference which product line the nail tech is using in terms of the final results - what your finished nails look like, and how long they will last are two major factors determined mainly by the quality of the gels themselves, and also the skill of the tech as well.

Either way, regular maintenance is required for either acrylic, or gel nails. A full set of gel nails typically run in the range of $45-$85 - depending on a few variables. A full set of acrylics generally run about $48. This is the average cost for a full set of acrylic nails in the U.S. right now. Sure, you can go to some discount salon, and get a full set for like $25 or less, but I'll tell you this much - the quality of those nails will be nowhere as good as when done by a highly skilled tech using top quality products. With nails, you get what you pay for. You pay for cheap nails, you will get cheap nails. Simple as that.

I hope this helps to answer your question!

Edit: I beg to differ with the other answer. Gels are NOT easier to apply, nor are they quicker to apply. This is not true at all. Sure, just about any tech can slop on gel and simply apply it like nail polish, but the end result will be very flat, odd looking nails. You always need to create a well structured nail, which of course includes building a properly formed apex. This is essential for both strength, and also to create natural looking nails. Flat nails are not pretty to look at, nor do they have any strength, and will result in premature service breakdown just about every time. This same principle applies to acrylic nails. Creating properly structured nails is always a key element with any type of nail enhancements! And fiberglass wraps are not strong at all. In fact, they are very weak compared to either gel, or acrylic nails. I will agree that they look realistic, but they are only recommended for people with weak and/or brittle nails. People who are rough with their hands will find them breaking apart into pieces quickly. Besides that, wraps are cyanoacrylate based. And this chemical - which is the main ingredient in super glue, is not water resistant. Water will dissolve these nails somewhat easily when exposed to it for extended periods of time. This same reaction does not occur with gel, or acrylic nails because they are not cyanoacrylate based nail enhancements. What's the difference between l%26amp;p, acrylic and gel nails?
    Flexibility mainly.

Acrylic are generally the least expensive.

Gel are the quickest and easiest to do but I would avoid them unless you are very gentle with your nails as they aren't as strong as acrylic and cost a bit more.

Fiberglass are the most expensive but look most realistic (thin) and are extremely strong. They are also relatively quick to fill.

    I was a nail tech for 2 years in a high-end salon.

    Hope this helps =)

Where can I get ibd gel nails in Los Angeles?

My nail lady from Reno used ibd gel nails on me and I love them however I am having trouble finding a salon that uses that product in Los Angeles the only nail salons I can find are the discount salons that claim to use gel but are really using acryllic. Any suggestions?Where can I get ibd gel nails in Los Angeles?
Maybe you can contact the manufacturer at eznails.com and they could direct you to salons that purchase products from them. Did your nail technician in Reno work at a chain? Maybe the chain in other locations use the same supplies. For another option, you could have your nail technician in Reno call some of her friends in Los Angeles and maybe she could find out for you.

What is the recommended bulb wattage for UV lamps wen doing gel-nails.?

i have a UV lamp and all the equipment but im not sure if my set just isnt a good make? is there any difference with the UV gels, to do with their quality, or are they all the same? i also know my UV lamp isnt a highly powered one but wondered what the average one is usually used? What is the recommended bulb wattage for UV lamps wen doing gel-nails.?
Wow, no information here, huh? OK, this discussion is definitely going to have so much more information than you ever needed, or wanted to know about UV lamps, bulbs, and gels, LOL. But, that isn't such a bad thing, is it?

Anyway...When referring to the wattage of a particular UV lamp, its important to know that the combined wattage of the individual bulbs does is not what the wattage of the lamp is. Does that make sense? Let me try this. Most UV lamps take 9 watt bulbs. There are a few - very few, that take a 6 watt UV bulb. The number of bulbs in a particular UV lamp varies from a single bulb, to four, and even five bulbs with four being the most common. Lets assume that a lamp has four (9) watt bulbs in it. That lamp is still a 9 watt lamp. It is not a 36 watt lamp as so very many people incorrectly assume it to be. The only thing different is the lamps UV light output per square inch. Obviously, four bulbs are going to give off more of an intense light than a single bulb. It get a bit more complicated actually. You see, the size of the UV lamp (in square inches when the interior is measured) plays a large role in the amount of UV light emmited and put to use. A large lamp with four bulbs has a larger interior area. There are lamps out there which are much smaller inside than most others and these will generally give a higher light output to square inch ratio. For example, the CND Brisa lamp is very small in terms of size. One hand fits just fine, but there is very little extra room to it. This lamp has three (9) watt UV bulbs. If you were to see the actual numbers which show the light intensity of the various lamps, you would se that even with three bulbl, the Brisa lamp emits more UV light than almost all other lamps that use four bulbs. Thus, the Brisa lamp will provide for a full cure for just about any UV gel on the market with a two minute curing time. BTW, two minutes is pretty much the standard length of time to cure almost any UV gel on the matket, with a few exceptions.

Another important consideration is the manufacturer of the bulb itself. The best UV bulbs are made by Sylvania, and Philips - and one other brand that I cannot recall at the moment. These bulbs are expensive in comparison to all the other bulbs which are available. Many UV bulbs are generic bulbs imported from China and other countries, and are rather inferior in terms of quality. They are a fraction of the cost of the high quality bulbs I mentioned, but they aren't very effective, they burn out quickly, and they don't always fully cure the UV gels. One thing...When I say they 'burn out,' I mean the UV light emitted is not anywhere near as strong as it was when the bulb was new. Any UV bulb - when it is brand new will emit the most UV light of its useful life. Each time you use the lamp, the bulb loses some of its UV intensity. Don't be fooled by the fact that 'light' is still visible. That tells nothing. The thing is, UV light is not visible to the naked eye. Only the other unusable, non-UV light that is emmited is visible. So, a bulb may still be working, so to speak, but the UV light that is emmited from the bulb could very well be depleted, and therefore 'burned out.' Are you with me on this? OK, cool!!!

The lesson to be learned from the above is that not all UV bulbs are vreated equally. For consistently good results, always buy the best bulbs on the market. Cheap bulbs are really nothing but a waste of money.

Yes, there is some difference between UV gels. Inferior gels are never as good as those of higher quality, and thus - more expensive. But, that's just common sense and it should be obvious to most people that you get what you pay for in life and UV gels are no exception to that rule.

There are many brands, and each has its good, and its bad points. It depends on individual needs, and preferences as to which particular UV gel product line you will use. The best way to find out is to try as many as you can, and go from there. his will give you a good feel for the different gels, and then you can make an informed decision about which product line(s) you will use on a regular basis. The price of UV gels also vary quite widely, with the low end gels being in the neighborhood of maybe $10 for a small pot of gel. The high end gels such as LCN (The very best, IMHO), will cost you an arm and a leg, LOL! LCN gel is VERY expensive indeed. On the average, expect to pay about 3 times the cost for LCN gels as you would for a middle of the road UV gel. Yes, they are that expensive. But they are also the best gels available. However, are they worth the cost? That is debatable. Many techs will say yes, they are worth it. Others will disagree. Again, personal preferences. One thing is for certain...More people who have been getting their nails done at a good salon for a long time have at least heard of LCN gels. Many people will specifically ask for it by name. It is a highly recognized product line. What is the recommended bulb wattage for UV lamps wen doing gel-nails.?
every brand of gel has different requirements of bulb wattage. Check with the manufacturer to see how many watts are needed for curing. There is usually a phone number on the bottle. No they are not all the same, some are better then others. A couple of better quality gels are gelousy and brisa by creative nail design.

How long do gel nails last? Acrylic? I've never had my nails professionally done- Is it worth it???

I'm trying to decide whether or not to go to a nail salon. My nails break quite easily, and I've heard that the fake nails ruin your natural nails. However, mine look horrible and I'd like to have them look pretty for the summer. How long do they last, and how often do you have to get touch-ups? How long does it take them to put them on?How long do gel nails last? Acrylic? I've never had my nails professionally done- Is it worth it???
Well, acrylic nails do mess your real nails up, especially if you wear them for extended amounts of time. They usually cost around $25 for a full set, and $15 for a fill. My nails usually needed redone every two weeks or so. I really hated getting fills too because when your nails start to grow out he acrylic can start to chip and crack, especially if you do a lot of chores. I would usually get mine done, wait about two weeks or until they grew out too much and then get a fill. After the fill I would wait again and then when I went in again I would just do another full set. The time it takes depends on where you go and what exactly you want done. If you want a full set with a regular french manicure, I'd say plan on 45 minutes, maybe an hour. If you want polish, I would say about the same. If you are one of those girls who likes the God awful extreme nail airbrush and designs, then plan on being there for a good while. How long do gel nails last? Acrylic? I've never had my nails professionally done- Is it worth it???
Just take care of your natural nails! The summer's not for a while.. or get SHORT fake nails, if you must...not long, tacky, ruinous fake ones
Acrylic lasts for about two weeks before you need a ';fill in'; (That's where they overlay more acrylic). It looks good. Just don't get them too long and get french or american manicure!

A full set can be done in about an hour.

Once you get the first full set, you just get fill ins after that and then get a new set about every month or two.
it depends on how u maintain dem and how fast ur natural nails grow

Is it safe to get acrylic or gel nails while pregnant?

my doctor told me it was ok as long as i was more than 13 weeks pregnant and i was in a well ventilated area so as to not breathe in the fumesIs it safe to get acrylic or gel nails while pregnant?
Anytime after your first trimester it is pretty much ok to do your normal beauty treatments- dye your hair, get nails done, etc. Just try to avoid breathing in the dust or inhaling their chemicals... You can wear a dust mask or ask them to turn the fan towards you to help circulate the air you're breathing during your appt.Is it safe to get acrylic or gel nails while pregnant?
I find that the fumes are soooo strong in those nail places. I'd really opt not to get them, unless the place is highly ventilated...but most cases, they stink...and that stuff is not good for you. Notice that the people who put thoe nails on, most often wear masks???? I'd wait...but that's my opinion...maybe ask your Dr. Good Luck
I did and I also had my hair dyed while not knowing i was pregnant and my baby came out fine.
JUST DONT BREATH THE STUFF UP YOUR NOSE.

Well stop putting on the fake nails if you want healthy nails.

Make sure your nail tech knows that your gels or acrylics aren't staying attached. Maybe she's not using the nail dehydrator sprays? Have you tried changing nail salons to see if a different tech has better luck? It'd really be best if you just avoided fake nails and used a nail strengthener to get your nails into shape, and take vitamins (pre-natal) and calcium supplements to help.

Does this sealer need to be cured under a UV lamp after applying it? If so, then yes, acetone should work just fine. If you want to play it safe, just do one nail, and see how it looks after its been wiped. But, I think you should be fine. I use Scrub Fresh from CND for this purpose, and the bottle lists Isopropyl Alcohol as the main ingredient, followed by Acetone. So yeah, try it!Nail Techs, I am using a clear seal gel over my acrylics, but I don't have any cleanse for after application,

  • How to take gel nails off?

Hi. I went to a nail salon a while ago and got gel nails put on. Now I'm sick of them and want to take them off but how do I go about doing that?? I don't want to just rip them off because I'm scared I might take off some of my own nail in the process. :S

Thanks, your help is appreciated. How to take gel nails off?
I've gotten my nails done a million times and I've used this trick. I've tried ripping them off the first few times and ended up ripping off part of my own nail, as you've said! But what I do to take the gel nails off is rub Vaseline on my fingers and nails to help moisturize the skin because after that, I soak my nails in pure acetone. You can find pure acetone at beauty stores anywhere and they're usually less than $5. Soak your nails in pure acetone for about 15-20 minutes until it's more flexible and easy to come off. You'll eventually still have to rip them off, but dipping them in acetone does dissolve the gel and makes it easier for you to take them off. Much less painful!

I hope this helps! How to take gel nails off?
Gee, great answer. You don't know much about nails if you say that you can soak off GEL nails. UV gel nails cannot be soaked off. Period. They MUST be filed off.

You are going to peel off some of your own nails in the process. It is unavoidable because the fake nails are bonded to your real nails. Try soaking the nails in nail polish remover. I clip them off and then bite them off. I know, kinda awful. Or just let them grow down a bit and then they may just lift off. Still painful, but not as damaging to your real nails

I just broke my right thumb's pink and white gel nail.?

What do I do? It's cracked below the meat. The crack goes all the way across the middle of my thumb nail from left to right; and it even bled a little through the crack! Serious answers only please. I've already put alcohol on the crack, while opening it a little, cut the nail down so it wouldn't hit anything else (OUCH!) and put a waterproof band-aid on it. Keep in mind, I don't wear long nails because I type for a living.I just broke my right thumb's pink and white gel nail.?
It's just a fingernail, and many crack below the nail line. It's not a big deal. Keep it clean. Use antibacterial ointment and cover it with a bandaid to keep it from snagging on your clothing. It will grow out very quickly, but never quickly enough. Don't worry. You'll be fine. It may be uncomfortable for a day or two.I just broke my right thumb's pink and white gel nail.?
Glad you can see improvement. Right after I answered you, I ripped my nail the same way. I was thinking about you! Thanks!

Are gel nails better or acrylic nails?

I am 15 and am thinking about getting fake nails. I don't want the really thick ones, i want it to look as natural as possible. Are gel nails better or acrylic nails?
Gel nails are nicer looking and more natural. They look so good that it is hard to tell that they are not real. However they get soft if you like wash dishes in warm water etc and they break or tear easier that the acrylics. If you are looking for them to look natural then go for gels. Are gel nails better or acrylic nails?
gel nails are thin but they tend to get ruined quicker, acrylic are thick and last longer

How do you remove gel nails?

hey, so i got my nails done a while ago and im too lazy to go out and get them removed... so are there any SAFE procedures i can follow to remove them on my own at home? THANKS! =)How do you remove gel nails?
Soak them in polish remover or acetone. Gel nails are basically the same as acrylic nails. They put them on the same way with that liquid and powder stuff but they use a different kind of powder to make gel nails. How do you remove gel nails?
soak in polish remover and kinda scrape them off. i was told for 10 mins to soak but you might have to soak them longer... i did. i think it will work with gels i had acrylics and they came off that way. it took long though.

o and put vaseline on your fingers so they wont dry out!!!

I have had gel nails on I since Jan09. My nails have grown out where want them. Should I have the gel removed?

Or should I just keep getting them filled in. My own nails are turning yellow on the under side of the nail. What should I do. I was thinking about having them all soaked off and a whole new set put on.I have had gel nails on I since Jan09. My nails have grown out where want them. Should I have the gel removed?
If your nails are turning yellow from your gel nails - then yes, have them soaked off and get a new set. They always look better with a new set anyway. So yeah, soak them off and get new ones. Good luck!

Do gel nails tend to lift easier than acrylic nails?

I've had gel nails in the past and liked the way they looked, but they lifted. I'm not sure if it was the person who did them or the gel. Does gel tend to lift easier than acrylic?Do gel nails tend to lift easier than acrylic nails?
Gel Nails are the future of the nail industry! Europe is already 90% GELS, the USA will be too within 10 years! Gels are and will be the ';hot'; service that clients demand. No other service can give clients both a natural nails look and feel combined with the convenience and durability of acrylic nails. Many clients have tired of acrylic nails in this past decade because of the disadvantages that can be associated with them (such as the odors and lifting and nail damage, etc) . These same clients now flock to salons in record numbers for ';natural nail'; manicures with many spa type add-ons to increase the ticket price. BUT鈥? Many of these clients have already grown weary of the weekly appointments and rigorous home maintenance requirements of ';natural'; nails. They want another alternative; they want natural beauty combined with strength and durability. Now you can give clients what they want鈥︹€?Gel nails ARE the best of both worlds!

I would say that it was the fault of the person doing your nails and not the gel nails. They are the best!Do gel nails tend to lift easier than acrylic nails?
they do but are better for you nails!

acrylic is really damamnging to your real nail and looks fake, whereas gel is less so.

if you want to go for gel nails i would recommend Bio Sculpture - it is a natural gel serum they use.

I use it and my nails look natural and protects them at the same time and does not damage my real nail as much

i got gel nails because my friend wanted to get them done for her birthday but i really hate them and i don't know how to get them off. If you have to buy anything to get them off then is there anyway of making them look less noticeable and just like painted nails? How do i get gel nails off?
If they are real UV gel nails - and not acrylic, then you must file them off. They will not soak off in acetone or any other solvent such as polish remover the way that acrylic nails do. If the tech used any liquid and powder on your nails, you have acrylic nails, not gel. Gel looks exactly as the name implies - it is a gel. It is never a powder. Lots of salons, especially the cheaper ones apply acrylic nails and tell you they are gel. Some go as far as saying 'it gel powder.' Sorry, no such thing as gel 'powder.'How do i get gel nails off?
Use nail polish remover or some other substance with alot of acetone in it. Soak your nails in that for a while, then try to gently push them off with a nail tool, only push a little just so it will loosen. Continue doing this everyday and they should come off soon without wrecking your real nails.

    If you have any questions about this or anything, contact me at;

    Much love.
If they're UV, You need to file them off....If not, Just Soak your nails in pure acetone, and then use something to get the nail off.
Soak them in acetone nail-polish remover
Soak them in acetone...but do this for short periods and then use cuticle nipper to loosen it up. This will take a little while but it wont kill your nail beds

If a nail tech uses a liquid and powder and a uv light does it mean that I have uv gel nails or acrylics>?

After only one week, my nails look terrible. It looks like I need a fill in even though I was told that fill-ins are every 3 to 4 weeks. When I am there getting a pedicure I always hear people saying that the uv gel nails are the greatest. I have always had a good experience at this nail salon. The only reason I got the nails was that when I get a manicure it normally only last a couple of days. I spent 70 bucks for these nails and it pretty much lasted as much as a 6 dollar manicure. If a nail tech uses a liquid and powder and a uv light does it mean that I have uv gel nails or acrylics%26gt;?
i love getting my nails done. the only way that they are ';gel'; nails is if before they put your nails under the UV light, they will put a gel on top of your nails. They wipe the gel off as soon as you take your hands out from the light. I usually have to get mine done every 2 weeks, just depends on how fast your nails grow. Also, a little advice, if your nails aren't lasting, maybe you're not going to the best place. Does it smell really bad? Do they have to leave the doors open? If it smells horrible nail places, of course, have a smell, but if this is very very distinct and horrible, that means that they aren't using the best chemicals for your nails. That could be why they aren't lasting. If a nail tech uses a liquid and powder and a uv light does it mean that I have uv gel nails or acrylics%26gt;?
First off not every person's nails grow at the same rate. Secondly, the UV light is to help harden the acrylic and speeds up the drying process. Try a different nail tech who uses the same acrylic process. If it happens again then it just maybe your nails grow really fast. My wife complains right at about the two week mark that her cuticles need be cut and she needs a fill in.
    you have gel nails.

acrylics are much better in my opinion.

call the salon, most will fix the problem at no charge because one unhappy customer can lead to a lot of lost business. it could be that the product used was old or something of that sort.

but id definitely call your nail tech or go in and show her, my bet is shell make right. i would.

When i do a set of gel nails why do they chip and crack around cuticle and side walls?

i use ';salon systems'; gel system. im not touching the side walls or cuticles with the gel i.e....i leave a gap. do you think the primer is too thick or thin? When i do a set of gel nails why do they chip and crack around cuticle and side walls?
    Hi,

I am an advanced nail tech and moved away from Salon System products as I too was experiencing this problem. I changed to NSI products and use builder gel whether I am doing sculptured or tips. Also I found NSI do a really good primer which offers great adhesion of the gel. Also ensure that the nail is slightly rough for those clients with an oily nail plate as this will only prevent proper adhesion. And like you are already doing, keep away from the cuticle and side wall to prevent lifting. Hope this helps, and good luck. VictoriaWhen i do a set of gel nails why do they chip and crack around cuticle and side walls?
From a personal experience (I've been having them done for 3 years now): Oil (any kind) around them and once they've grow a little, file them down to make them smooth and you don't need to worry for a while.
you might be working too think dear. depends what product u are useing.

What's the difference between powder and gel acrylic nails?

my friend and i are going to get our nails done at a salon and were wondering what kind we should get. there's a choice between gel and powder, but we have no idea which ones last longer, *look better*, feel better, yadayadayada. any info about acrylic nails is great. just don't say how bad it makes your nails, we totally know and we're going to do it anyways. What's the difference between powder and gel acrylic nails?
One is the difference is in the product. Gel tends to be softer and breaks more easily, where acrylic is much more durable, but damages your nails. It makes your nails very brittle and breaks very easily. The other difference is that Gels are said to be less damaging. The only reason for this is because of the filing process. Gels require a lot less filing on the natural nail. As to where acrylics usually have the drill and alot more work. What's the difference between powder and gel acrylic nails?
So how much did that cost you?

Go for the gel, they really shine and last so much, much longer. Powder ones will look ugly after you wash your hands so many times.
Definitley get Gel... I have them right now!

One time I got acrylic and It made my nails realy sore for some reason. Wierd, huh? Get the gel because its more sanitary... even though it costs like 5 bucks more (:
well, one is made of powder and one is made of gel. :P

Gel nails or acrylic nails - which is better and why?

My 12 year old daughter wants to get hers done but I'm getting conflicting info about which is better and lasts longer. One thing I really hate is when women get their nails done and they look so thick - I think it's awful!! So I want to make sure that hers don't look like that.

Does anybody have any information that might help me out? Thanks!Gel nails or acrylic nails - which is better and why?
french tips are painted on, they look like acrylics but they wont be think like you are talking about. its a really cute look too!Gel nails or acrylic nails - which is better and why?
I am a nail technician and there are quite a few options available. The two most popular being gel or acrylic.

Due to your daughters age, I would highly recommend gel at this stage. Acrylic nails require quite a bit more filing of the natural nail, and without an experienced nail technician they are quite often very thick. With gel nails, they are a lot less harmful to the natural nail underneath and are rarely thick as its just a coating (like nail polish) of gel that hardens under UV light.

I believe your daughter would also like the look of the gel nails better because they are shiny, like you are wearing a coat of clear nail polish all the time. Your daughter can also polish her nails with nail polish, but ensure she uses an acetone free nail polish remover.

However, unfortunately it may be harder for you to find a technician who specialises in gel nails, as they are not as common place as acrylic yet. But are beginning to get more popular. Gel nails are also a bit more expensive.

If and when you decide what application you desire, ensure to explain this to the nail technician. Explain that you do not want the nails to be thick, and ensure she understands this. You are a paying customer, and any good nail technician will want to ensure the customer is happy with the application! :)

I hope this has been of some help.
    acrylic.

    there cheaper.

gels, you have to get them filled in a lot.

acrylic you can just take them off, they last about 1 and a half-2 weeks, depending how fast your nails grow.

im 13 and i get them done a lot.

just soak them in hot water and peel them off when she wants them off.

there very pretty and not to thick:)

    good luck,have a good day!
hmm, 12 seems really young to start doing that lol

I get just the tips put on and then a gel overlay...

seems to be fine but the thickness really just depends on the nail tech. :\

maybe let them know beforehand you dont want them done too thickly :)
    acrylic
acrylic (which ever ones are called tips)
ik that gel ones look thick, but they are better for your nails than acrylic and they last longer!

  • Can I get fake, not acrylic or gel, nails done professionally at a salon?

Fake like the press-on kind. I just need them for a weekend but I don't have time to prep the nails myself. Can I get fake, not acrylic or gel, nails done professionally at a salon?
I don't know but try calling a couple ofl your local nail salons and ask. The worse thing they can say is no.

Good luckCan I get fake, not acrylic or gel, nails done professionally at a salon?
yes u can.. theres fake nails called 'prescription nails' and theyre like stick on ones u do yourself.. except there more specific to ur nail and they are placed slighty under the cuticle.. they stay on longer, and are stronger.. but dont rip them off.. it'll ruin ur nails

Whats the difference between Acrylic Nails And Gel Nails ? ?

Im on a beauty therapy website and i want to no whats the difference between acrylic nails and Gel nails and what would be better for short nails for me to get?Whats the difference between Acrylic Nails And Gel Nails ? ?
not much it all depends what u do for work?

gel r better for your nails but r not good if you use your hands allot, they will fall of easy. Acrylics r allot stronger but not good if you only have them on for short time if your going somewhere your best to get gel but if you want them for a long time your best to have acrylic.

Allot of people say that this chemicals will reck your nails that would be true if you take them of and get them back on all the time. Your nails are made of dead cells called keratin its also found in your skin and hair. So my question to anyone out their is how can kill something all ready dead?

if these chemicals were applied to your skin that could damage your skin for sure as your skin is pores it can sip through.

Be careful by what you chose to what suits you, and make sure you know your products Eg acrylic is a powder and liquid mixet together Gel is only a liquid its never a powder so if you get gel and the nail tech uses a powder and liquid that's not gel its acrylic it never never comes in powder, well im yet to see this product, but how they disguise it as gel the last application they use a gel overlay and use the uv to cure it, but that is not gel its acrylic with gel overlay and why they do this is because they charge more for gel so make sure they know what they r talking about firstor make them show you the product which will clearly state what that product is. hope i helped.Whats the difference between Acrylic Nails And Gel Nails ? ?
they are both good, but if you do a lot of cleaning or your hands are in water alot, I would suggest you get acrylic.

I have had both, and I am a hairdresser, the gel peeled off from my hands constantly in the water, but the acrylic is more damaging to your nail bed, as they file away the top layer..

    Good luck
Both are basically the same. Acrylics are made of Monomer and Powder, and are taken off by Acetone....For Gels, They're made similar to Acrylics, But to harden them, Their are two ways, Light cured, which the nail harden when set under a special light source, like Ultraviolet, and to get those off, You'll have to buff layer, by layer...and then the No light Gels hardens when a activator or accelertor is sprayed or brushed on, or when they are soaked in water.
Acrylics are ok but they make a mess of your natural nail as they're stuck on with super glue.

Gels on the other hand (no pun intended) let your nail breathe underneath, are very hardwearing, don't chip or crack like nail polish, and last for weeks. Try CalGel at a salon.
They are both the same. I just got mine gel and there the same **** as acrylic except my gel were 45$ and my acrylic are usually 25$ Im pissed off.

Ive done my first set on myself and they do look good, but could be better.

Thanks a million to anyone who can help!! :)Im teaching myself to appy gel nails, does anyone have any tips on application, products and suppliers?
ok. here is one tip on gel nails. gel is self leveling. so when you apply it, do it in thin coats. making sure to ';tip'; the nail. that means wrap it around the end, free edge. after you apply the gel, turn your hand over, so that the nails are upside down. facing the floor. now keep them level. leave them that way for a few moments, like 20-30 sec. the gel will level out, and be fuller in the middle of your nail, giving you a nice C curve, a natural nail appearance, and won't be all puddled around your cuticle. you should be using a UV lamp, so make sure to cure each coat of gel 1 minute untill you get to the last coat, and cure for 2 minutes. also, when you apply the gel to y our nails, don't be heavy handed. use light strokes, with the brush level with the nail. if you hold your brush up to high then you push too much on the gel. and don't do your nails right after you got done doing the dishes. your nails will absorb moisture and the gel won't adhere as well. good luckIm teaching myself to appy gel nails, does anyone have any tips on application, products and suppliers?
If you really want to learn to do nails properly your best to get proper training from a licensed school or through product training.

Can nail polish be used to add color and decorate UV Gel Nails?

I am concerned that they were not applied correctly. I read that part of the negative issues from Acrylic nails was that the nail was filed down to be thin so that the acrylic would adhere to the nail. if it is not any where near your nail where the gel will be applied they will not do it but it sounds as if it is above your cuticle so u should be fine. they should be able to do it.

yes i know exactly what you are looking for as it is very popular (a line of glitter along the smile line). i put them on for free but it differs in various salons!

    hope i helped!

:)QUESTIONS ABOUT GEL NAIL EXTENSIONS!!! 10 POINTSSS.?
1.not at all you can have the shortest nails but if you have extreamly long nails they will trim them a bit

    2. they usually cost 28 or 30 depends on which nail store

3.you must ask for them but a white tip may cost extra like 3 or 5 dollars more

4.yes it cost 5 dollars extra to put any sort of designs so at the end of the day you may spend like 35 dollars or with a tip 40 dollars

.but gel is way better than acurtlic so its worth the money
    1. Yes, your nails cant be super short, however, besides that your nails can be pretty much any length I believe. I think it looks better on shorter nails. Not when you can see the tips of your nails from the palm, side of you finger.

    2. It depends on where you get them done, they vary salon to salon. I would recommend getting a tip, not full size.

    3. They are french tipped, but you can get them painted over I believe.

    4. It probably does cost slightly extra.
No, and I have been getting them for awhile now, to me they look better short.

a full set cost around 60, or 50,

Gel white tips are just the tip of white but you can get pink and white which looks alot better,

it will cost exttra because your asking for more.

    Good luck!
eww!!! don't do gel. that is soo fugly!!!
1- I've never had gel nails but I've had acrylics on and off for 6 years. gel works basically the same way the first time you have it on- they trim your nail down short and then glue a plastic tip on the end of your short nail. then the gel or acrylic goes over that.

2- I would call nail salons in your area and ask about the cost of a full set. I know how much it costs in the east but I have no idea in WA

3- if you want french there's usually an extra charge and yes you have to ask for that. it's just a different type of paint job as opposed to them using polish

4- yes glitter will be an extra charge too, just like if you want an airbrush design on your nails
1.No there is no preferred lenght for gels once u are at the salon they are filed short and the surface is buffes so the gel can settle smoothly! It doest matter what ur nail lenght is once they are on.

2.I cant answer that im writing from ireland a good gel set cost around 55 euro here!!!

Make sur you ask what gel products they use.i dont know brands u use in us but if its a cheap product they go yellowy quicker due to Uv and sun exposure and also start to lift on side which means u will need in fills after 2 weeks..a good set should last up to 3 weeks and a bit more.

3.All gel nails are naturally frenchtipped....the first step is puttind on like a fake nail glued on and is then shortened to ur taste.I usually prefer them sort with a bit thicker with tip...the longer they are the sooner u need infills. also if you are not happy the the lenght of white tip it can be changed with ur next visit!!

4.They is a small fee for the glitter cant answer that for u in us its not much. Its not popular in Ireland the natural look is the cleanest..but everyone has different tastes. Its just a line between the tips and the pink is it??its simple to be done!

If ur getting the gels done soon i advise u to start using nail oil and looking after cuticle then the gels will look even better....

Enjoy them sounds like ur first time just make sure to take a month or 2 break from them a year so ur natural nail has time to regenerate and to avoid fungal in fections which can happen if they are not done correctly and air bubbles appear..

I d go by word of mouth for a good salon and something its better to pay a little extra than have them applied horribly causing u to get whole procedure done again incl soak off!!!

    HOP THIS HELPS
You can have any length of nails to get gels done since they start at the cuticle. And when you get them, get them done at a natural length. It looks better than super long!

    For a full set it's around $50.

You need to ask for french tips. They do it by gluing on white nail tips to your real nail %26amp; then doing the gels over your nail %26amp; the tip. If you don't ask for them then some places will use a clear tip because they assume you'll want your nails painted a solid color.

And yes, it does cost extra for a design. How much they charge depends entirely on where you're getting them done. Some places charge per nail %26amp; some places will give you a set price for all 10 nails done. Mine usually cost $10 - $15 extra depending on the design.
