The salon lady convinced me today to switch to a different method, using ';glue'; and then some kind of powder. My nails don't look as nice but she says they will last longer. I really liked the gels but they were chipping after a couple of days. Do you think that they were just doing a bad job or are gel nails just not right for everyone??? Thanks! My gel nails have been chipping after a day or two. Is it just not right for me or are they doing a bad job?
Two things come to mind. First, it sounds as if you went to a typical discount salon. Those are the ones that charge like $25 for a full set of acrylics, don't speak english very well, have walk-in service (no appointment needed), and do nails in a half hour or so. If so, that is most of your problem right there. Mose of these so called salons don't have experienced, skilled techs. I won't go into a long thing about them, but I do advise avoiding them if at all possible.
The other thing is this glue and powder. It sounds to me like an acrylic dip system. Did she apply the 'glue' and then either dip your nails into the powder, or maybe even sprinkled some powder over the 'glue' instead? If so, that's an acrylic dip system. It would be just like a discount salon to talk people into getting those nails. You see, they aren't durable, they are super easy to do - anyone can do these kid of nails, no skill is required. They are essentially useless, shoddy nails.
As for the gel nails, did the tech use ANY liquid and powder o your nails? If she did, then you have acrylic nails, not gel nails. Its a typical discount salon scam. You ask for, and pay the higher price for gel nails, and they give you acrylic nails instead often calling the powder a 'powder gel.' No such thing as a powder gel, sorry. A gel...is a gel. It is never a powder. If she used actual UV gel, then it could be a matter of them using cheap gels which aren't durable, nor do they last long at all.
I suggest not going back to that salon. Instead, find a reputable American owned and operated salon with experienced, skilled techs who use nothing but the best quality products o your nails. Yes, you will pay more. But the end result is always well worth it.My gel nails have been chipping after a day or two. Is it just not right for me or are they doing a bad job?
AMEN to JUST M's answer!!!!! You get what you pay for when you go to the ';DISCOUNT'; salons! Gel is gel, and there isn't in my 19 yr experience as a PROFESSIONAL NAIL TECH , I have never heard of a glue/powder gel. Get that crap off your nails and go to a professional, reputable salon. Gel is used with a UV light called ';curing'; which makes it hard. Acrylic is a liquid/powder application. Whatever you have on your nails is probably brought in this country illegally just like the ';Faux'; purses you see in on every corner! I can recommend a product either in gel or acyrlic by a company called ';Creative Nail';. Call around and ask them if they use Brisa Gel by Creative Nail Design or Rentention acyrlic liquid by CND. I've been using this product for 19 yrs and tried everything. I have clients going as long as 4 wks without getting fills (rebalance). I wouldn't suggest going that long but in this economy, I can always fit in new clients so it hasn't hurt me! Good luck to you! Oh....and pay close attention to the sanitation and disinfecting by the nail tech touching your hands. Do NOT let her use a used file or file band on a drill. Ask for a new one to be used!!! Make sure all implements are in a disinfecting liquid. THANKS EMMA!
If it chipped that easily, the tech might have not used enough gel.
Also, the glue and powder method looks really good when the tech knows what he/she's doing.
I'd go to another salon, it doesn't like you're very satisfied there. Good luck!
base coat + nail polish + top coat :)
Umm, you need to go somewhere else! I have had my gel nails/solar nails on my nails for almost ten years and NEVER had a problem. If I have it was because the person applying them did not do a good job. Mine last a month then I go in for a refill, every three or four refills I try to do a full set. I use my hands all day for typing and packing (I work in shipping for my company) and like I said before-I don't have issues with my nails.
True gel (they open a jar and there is actually gel in there) where you have to put them under a UV lamp are better. I have found that gel cracks a little more easily on me so it might not be the best option if you are hard on your nails. You have to fill them less thoughl which is a plus
i would say that the gel nails that you have had done are not very good. when i have had them done they haven't chipped for at least a week or so i would try a different shop and see what happens.
justm %26amp; giggles have the right answers. they're steering u right.
forget the salon who put this stuff on your nails. next time u need attention to your nails .... go someplace else.
and, good luck.
